We rode an extra 10 miles than planned - so 232 miles - and added in the Mont Cassel
The ride out of Calais was wet and 2 punctures within the first 2 miles slowed us down; a slight miscalculation meant that we had to divert through Cassel - introducing a climb that features in the Four Days of Dunkirk race that pro teams use to warm up for the Tour de France. A wet ride totalling 82 miles took us into Ypres.
Day 2 started in bright sunshine through the country lanes of Belgium but when we reached the coast path near Ostende the heavens opened again and everyone ended up wet and cold. The weather brightened up by the end of the ride along the coast path and we had mostly dried off when we rolled into Middelburg on 84 miles for the day.
Day 3 was bright and sunny but very windy. The top speed recorded was just over 40 mph in the wind assisted section. The last 10 miles grinding into The Hook of Holland against the wind was painful for everyone and we were all glad to finish our 66 miles I For the day.
The pain and discomfort was all woth it to raise money for this great charity and we had a great deal of fun along the way as those who read the blog will know!
Thanks to everyone for donating to this really good cause from all of the team.
