Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Hayley, I live in Yorkshire with my husband Danny.

Please take a second to read about the girl that made me so passionate about making a difference and inspires me everyday to make her proud in her memory.

Two years ago in March, I lost my best friend. Her name was Vera, and she was my Nannan. She had secondary cancer in her spine which had spread from a cancer in her breast that didn't form lumps, and it developed quite quickly without symptoms. She died aged 76.

After she died, it would be an understatement to say I struggled without her. She was someone I could confide in about anything and she would support me, but also she was the person I had the most giggles with. I will never forget her face at a Boyzone concert when Ronan Keating took his shirt off! :)

The thing that gets me through now is that my Nannan and Grandad have been reunited after nearly nine years apart. My Grandad had Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma and fought it, but unfortunately came back 10 years later as Hodgkin's Lymphoma and although he had the same symptoms, it wasn't treated in time and died aged 68.

I hope you can appreciate how personal this post on here is and that's why I want to make a change by helping to fund the research that will help future generations and their loved ones. I'm certain that if we there was more knowledge on how cancers form and how they can return, I would still have my Nannan and Grandad with me today.

In order to raise as much money as possible I needed to challenge myself to do something crazy, that would stand out and make my Nannan proud.

So the obvious choice is..... A shark dive! Hmmmmmmm.....

It's on the 11th July 2014 at the Blue Planet Aquarium in Cheshire. There's no cage. I scuba dive into a tank where there will be 6x 10ft Sand Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks, a Lemon Shark, Guitar Sharks and Southern Atlantic Stingrays!!

I have to admit, I'm terrified of doing this and there's quite a good chance I will have a panic attack in my scuba gear (because it's hard enough to control your breathing anyway!), however I will do it because I know I will have my Nannan there with me, probably telling me I'm a silly bugger!

So please, give what you can to support me in this. Together we can make a difference.

Ps - me and my Nannan didn't have permanent moustaches.... this is the kind of thing we would get up to while she was in Hospital, eating liquorice wheels :)
