Typhoon Ketsana emergency appeal
Typhoon Ketsana struck Laos on the last 29th September causing
widespread flooding and damage. In remote provinces in the south of the country
water levels are continuing to rise, electricity supplies have gone down and
villages are completely cut off from the main roads.
The latest report from our staff in the area is that
water levels are reaching two metres. Many people are stranded on the roofs of
their houses and clean water is running out. In this region alone, over 6,000
people in 28 villages are affected.
“These
communities have already been suffering from food shortages in the recent
past. This disaster has completely ravaged the lives of poor people with very
scarce resources.” said
Sally Sukulku, Health Unlimited’s manager in Laos. “Our priority now is to
provide the worst affected communities with food, water and shelter.”
Please help us provide food and water to people who
have lost their homes and possessions in the storm. We need your support urgently –
please give now. Your support will save lives.
