Heart really is passionate about supporting race for life this year. It seems that we all have been affected by cancer in some form in our lives. Our journalist Claire Gibbard from Heart Breakfast with Matt Rogan saw her Mum fight and survive Ovarian cancer, her grandmother has also recovered from a form of the disease and she has also lost her grandad to lung cancer.
Claire says, "I know that I've been extremely lucky that my Mum managed to fight the disease and is still with us today. I was very young but I still remember the day when my mum and dad told me she was very ill. It was a long road to recovery but I don't know what I would have done if we had lost her as she's my best friend. Unfortunately a few members of my family have also suffered with different forms of cancer and we lost my grandad when I was just 15 years old.
I want to raise as much money as possible for Race for life this year, I'm really pleased that we have a Heart team for Torbay and together we can raise vital funds for cancer research UK"
