Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the University of Bath organised charity trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for the Children's Society. Not only is this for a great cause, it is also a fantastic personal challenge as I couldn't even climb a hill in Wales due to my asthma last year. This is a multi day trek to 5895 metres above sea level with several hours of trekking a day in very thin air - crazy right!

That aside, the Children's Society do brilliant work. They work directly with the most disadvantaged children, many of whom have nowhere else to turn, to ensure that they and all children are loved, valued and listened to. They fight childhood poverty, harm and neglect.

Their network of programmes includes drop-in services for runaways, children's centres and support for young carers. They support children who are refugees from violence, and give those in care a voice. They transform the lives of many more children by influencing government and local authorities to change policy and practice to protect them.

£7
each week could support a child who might otherwise fall outside of the education system and give them the skills they need to fulfil their potential through a peer-mentoring programme.

£15
could pay for an hour’s support out in the community for a disabled young person.

£25
could buy materials for activities for young people at risk of running  away (such as art materials, games, disposable cameras and DVDs) to help them address the issues in their lives.

£50
could pay for a programme worker to spend three hours supporting a young person seeking asylum to access education, health care or to take part in a supportive youth activity.

£95
could pay for four mediation sessions between a child and their parents to stop the arguments that are making life at home unbearable.

£500
could pay for a residential weekend for five young carers, giving them independence, new skills and great friendship
