Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in the Brent Symphony Orchestra Tchaikathon on Sat 18th July 2009 in aid of Cancer Research UK.
In approximately six very long and intensive hours, I shall be leading the viola section through Tchaikovsky's symphonies 1-6, excerpts from Eugene Onegin, the Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture, the Nutcracker Suite, Capriccio Italien, an aria from the Queen of Spades and finally and fittingly, the 1812 Overture (with special sound effects in case anyone has fallen asleep).
As noble and under-appreciated as the viola is, it can get very heavy, so I have been putting in extra time at the gym, concentrating on my shoulders and arms. I really do hope I will have done enough training as it's going to be very tough.
Quite apart from having to keep the beast up for so long, I've got to play thousands of notes, hopefully mostly at the right pitch and in the right place. How my concentration is going to last I do not know. I'm sure I (and the rest of the band) will have fun trying though!
WANT TO LISTEN?
If you are a Tchaikovsky fan, please do come along and listen. You can drop in at any time (10am - 7pm), free admission. We'd love to have some audience. It's taking place in West Hampstead, at St James's Church, Sherriff Rd, NW6 2AP. I can supply the order of play if you're interested in hearing a particular work. Please email me on the address below.
WANT TO PLAY?
If you would like to take part (for a small donation), we have vacancies for a tuba (still, at this late stage, ours has swine flu), and a harp. I'm in charge of fixing the orchestra, so please email me at hraybould@yahoo.co.uk if you are interested.
WANT TO DONATE?
