Hi, I'm aiming to raise £300 for the North Shields Live at Home Scheme, part of Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA). The scheme is managed by my mother-in-law Val.
I think this is a fantastic cause as the scheme encourages and enables older people to remain in their own homes and retain their independence for as long as they wish and are able to do so. They do this by providing a range of 'preventative' services that are aimed stopping loneliness and isolation. I think that without the scheme many elderly people could go for weeks without seeing a friendly face.
The North Shields' scheme organises weekly lunch clubs, activities' clubs, befriending, shopping trips, men's group, trips and outings and special events, including transport. If you'd like to read their 2008 Annual report just let me know, as there's more information and photos in there.
I'm hoping to run the 13.1 miles without walking, and it's twice as far as I'm used to, so I'm trying to get the training in! I need all the inspiration I can get (as you can see from photo after just 3 miles!) and it would be brilliant if you would sponsor me.
