My story

Hello everyone,

First of all thanks for taking the time to visit our page, we really appreciate it!

On the 16 February 2012, we are (unbelievably to some) planning on taking on the amazing challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world; rising 5,882 metres from the base and the summit towering 4 miles vertically above the surrounding savannah.

For those who know at least one of us you will appreciate our love of make-up, heels and home comforts will make this a ridiculously challenging experience!

Apparently, only 40% of those who attempt to climb Kili actually make it to the top; altitude sickness and exhaustion being a big issue, and temperatures are known to drop from 40°C at the bottom of the mountain to -20°C at the top.

We are expecting to be dehydrated, exhausted and pretty sick for the duration of the 8 day climb and seriously suffering from lack of alcohol, chocolate and sleep!!!

BUT..... We fully intend to go all the way. We will walk, blistered and sick, crawl, or more likely persuade the guys to carry us, whatever it takes, we will definitely get to the top!

The drive behind us will not only be the amazing view awaiting us, but the satisfaction of contributing to such a beautiful cause.
Our goal is to raise at least £4000 for the Children’s charity Make A Wish, a charity who grants magical wishes to children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

Make A Wish has granted more than 7,000 wishes over 25 years. 1,200 children have turned to them this year alone to have their special wish granted and the charities aim is to grant every single one of them.

They believe, as I am sure most of us do, that few things can be more important or deserving than giving a seriously ill child the chance to have their wish come true, with all the hope and happiness that brings.

For many families the Make-A-Wish memory can be the last happy memory they have of their child having fun in a magical world, surrounded by family and friends, rather than memories of days and weeks of painful treatments and hospitalisation. The memory of the wish may be of their child laughing and enjoying being a princess or zoo keeper for the day or meeting a favourite celebrity. In years to come, the family can look back and remember that special time.

Having had personal experience with the charity helping my family, we have seen the amazing work they do, bringing an unbelievable happiness to a child and their family at such a difficult time. We feel very passionate about the charity and the people involved, and feel very excited to be able to give something back and contribute towards other children’s dreams.

So please, please, please give anything you can. While you are thinking about your donation, spare a thought for us, cold, tired, sick, greasy hair, no shower or make-up for a week, partially deaf from talking each other’s ears off and desperate for a rum and coke!!!!!

Seriously though, every penny is greatly appreciated and worth every inch of pain we will no doubt feel on the Mountain and beyond!

Thanks for your support and wish us luck............. we will need it!
