We provide emergency medical care worldwide to people affected by conflict & disasters.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running my first ever marathon in Brighton on April 18th. Having run numerous charity 10k and half marathons for 'fun' over the last few years without asking for donations, I have decided to fundraise for this event as it's such a huge undertaking and will be a great achievement. And there's the additional factor of turning 40 the week before and spending that sober (ish)!

My chosen charity is Medecins Sans Frontieres, a medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid throughout the world. It was awarded the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. In most locations where MSF works, for every 1 international volunteer there are at least 10 locally employed staff.

Donations to MSF helps save lives. These gifts help pregnant women give birth in safety, treat young children with malaria and provide surgery for people wounded by bombs and bullets. There is independence from political interference and red tape and MSF can act without delay or obstruction.

Here are  some examples of what donations are used

£7 a month covers the cost of medicine to treat 68 people for Malaria in a country like Sudan.

£10 a month - or about 33p a day - provides an emergency dressing kit containing sterile equipment, dressings and bandages to help people affected by conflict in a country like Somalia

£20 a month in a country like the Democratic Republic of Congo pays to test 80 people for deadly tuberculosis (TB) every month.

for:

£44.67 could provide a course of PEP treatment to help ensure that a woman who has been raped does not contract HIV/AIDS.

£80.34 could cover the cost of three day's cholera treatment for a patient.

£134 would pay for a measles vaccination for 1500 children. Protecting them from a disease that kills over 190,000 children each year.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks so much for your time, interest and support
