RUHX (formerly The Forever Friends Appeal) is the official NHS charity of the Royal United Hospitals Bath. We’re here to make our place healthier, happier and stronger for the future. And we do that by supporting the extra extraordinary work that leads to exceptional care for everyone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!!

I'm training hard for the Cardiff half marathon on October 18th 2009 and am trying to raise money for our new neonatal unit here in Bath, the RUH Forever Friends 'Space to grow' Appeal. There are two reasons why I have chosen this charity; firstly, I want to support the hospital where I work, but secondly,  I know first hand how vital it is to have a good neonatal unit at the RUH.

Tommy, my second son, was born 32 weeks premature. He spent the first two months of his life on NICU. He was very sick and needed enormous input from the staff for a worryingly long time. They were awesome - how they manage to provide such excellent care in the current cramped conditions is beyond me. But for parents, it is even worse. It is not a good time to be squeezed into a tiny area with others in the same situation - you need privacy and space to come to terms with all that having a premature baby entails.

The new build will meet the needs of patients, parents and staff. That's why I'm doing this - I want to give something back. Tommy is now nearly eight, and surpassing all our expectations. It's hard to remember the poorly scrap he was compared to the feisty little boy he is now!

This site is totally secure, so I would be delighted if you could donate even a small amount to the cause!

Thanks again, from Helen (and Tommy!) xxx
