My personal story:
Last July I decided to set myself a challenge to run for the GEAR race, the East Anglian run for May 2010. I saw the runners pictures in our local King's Lynn paper for the 09 race and thought wow, what an achievement.
As a complete beginner this would be a10K race for me and an enormous challenge. Why? The answer was simple. To raise money for my women's chariites which I am passionate about and to become fit.
Encouraged by my friends on the social networking site Twitter, I went public with this aim and knew my mind was set. No running away, no turning back.
I have been training for now 9 months and I have had every possible hurdle thrown at me. Sickness, stress, work overload and yes, even the hard winter we have had has made training an often uphill struggle.
But I have prevailed and stuck at it and trained and worked, huffed and puffed and slogged away. I am never a quitter and have managed twice now to run without stopping the six miles this race this.
I have had two fantastic running mentors and these ladies have stuck with me throughout. I owe it to them for what I have achieved to date. I could not have not done this without them.
I am so excited about this race. It means so much. I have learnt that running isn't just about physical fitness, it is about mental stamina, determination, confidence and self-control. It has given me so much already. I just want to give something back with the money raised to make a difference to other women's and girl's lives that I care so deeply about.
Please support me and thanks so much.
