On the 20th September 2014, I will be walking the London Monopoly Board, accompanied by assorted family and friends, and this is why...........................................

Five years ago I was the grateful beneficiary of some outstanding care from the John Radcliffe Neurology Team.

I suffered a major bleed in my brain, caused by a Cavernoma, and spent 3 days in Neuro ICU, on life-support in an induced coma, and a further month on the Neuro ward slowly recovering. The Cavernoma is still there, but behaving and Mr Kerr, my consultant, has decided to leave well alone until any changes force us to re-consider our options.

Without the the team's dedicated care I would probably not have survived the initial bleed and it is thanks to them, and the unfailing support from friends and family, that I am here today. 60% of people who suffer this kind of bleed don't survive and of the 40% that do, only a fifth are like me and left with no significant residual problems. So, the odds were not in my favour that day, and you can see why I feel so privileged to be here and why I am so grateful for the treatment and care I received.

This August marks the fifth anniversary and it is also my 50th birthday so this feels like a landmark year for me. I want to celebrate both by walking the 15 mile route of the London Monopoly Board and in doing so raise money for the Neurology Department at the John Radcliffe. 

I want to give something back to the team that saved my life and this is where you come in!
