Thanks for taking the time to look at our donation page.

This year we are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary with a party for family and friends. For those of you who were thinking of bringing along a present for us, please consider making a donation to St Peter's and St James Hospice instead.

Our aim is to help, even in a small way, the hospice where Gordon's mother passed away in December 2004.

It's not a sad story, just a very ordinary one.

Except for a successful hip replacement operation a few years back, Rene was the lucky sort of person who was hardly ever ill and she was happy to keep away from doctors. She lived an active life, walking her dog on the South Downs every day; she was contented, alert and very independent. When she was 92, she became seriously ill shortly after her birthday. Her health deteriorated rapidly and she was uncomfortable and worried. She was keen to stay at home but it was difficult for her family and the doctor to make her comfortable or reassure her. She reluctantly agreed to going into St Peter's and St James. Within hours the difference in her was obvious. The staff were able to make her comfortable and relaxed. Although she was tired and ill, she was able to enjoy visits from her family. She died very peacefully a few days later.

We know that many of more of you will have similar tales to tell about St Peter and St James, or about the other excellent hospices up and down the country.

Death is the sad reality of life. We all lose people we love and we all hope for a kind presence to ease our own passing when the time comes. The hospice movement is all about understanding  that reality; they provide expert care and ensure that every patient and every family is treated with dignity and respect. Needless to say they are inadequately funded and rely almost totally on donations.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to St Peters and St James hospice and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
