Lumino to Lumino Challenge · 4 September 2015 to 12 September 2015 ·

The GravityLight Foundation tackles poverty and protects the environment through innovative product design. Over 1.3 billion people don't have access to electricity; they rely on dangerous, expensive & polluting kerosene lamps for light. We design safe, affordable & reliable alternatives.

Story

To celebrate 30 years of Lumino, we are embarking on a gruelling challenge to cycle 1,200km from Lumino HQ in Essex to the town of Lumino in Switzerland. Our aim is to raise funds for GravityLight so that the production of their award winning product can become more sustainable.

I will be cycling Tour 2 throughout Belgium and France for 3 days which is roughly 459km of cycling...as well as driving alongside the rest of the team from the UK to Switzerland as part of the support team for the 9 days.

More than 1.3 Billion people still live in darkness around the world, Those living in ‘light poverty’ rely on fuel-based lighting; often from home-made kerosene lamps.  This leads to long term health risks, poisoning, burns, fires and explosions

Every year 1.5 Billion women and children die from illnesses related to inhalation of kerosene fumes. The money we raise will go directly to The GravityLight Foundation and will help them in setting up a sustainable, local production facility in Kenya to produce GravityLight.
