Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year, having finally reached the grand age of 30, I have decided it's time to do something crazy again! So this September I will be fulfilling an ambition I have held for many years, and cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats; in other words, biking the length of Britain from tip to tip. Blimey!
For two whole weeks I will, along with my team mates, cycle 80 miles a day, through wind, rain, sun, down hills, up mountains, and will see some of this country's most beautiful scenery (I promise to take photos!)
I am doing all of this to raise money for ChildLine, which turns 25 years old this year. Since working at the NSPCC, I have heard countless stories of how ChildLine has saved lives, provided assistance, reported abusers and given children the courage to see themselves out of terrible situations.
When I was eleven years old I tried, just once, to call ChildLine. I couldn't get through, and I never had the courage to try again. For those of you who know the course my life took over the following decade, you will understand that, had I managed to get through and speak to someone that evening, my life could have turned out very, very differently. Back then ChildLine was in its infancy, and the service is now able to answer roughly 87% of the calls it receives, which is truly fantastic. But this still means that 13% of children are not getting through, and many of them, like me, may never try again.
It costs around £4 to answer a call to ChildLine. So if I manage to reach my fundraising target of £2,600, that money will allow ChildLine to talk to a whopping 650 more children. The knowledge of how many lives that might change is why this ride is so important to me, and will keep me going as I'm struggling up those hills in the freezing rain.
So please, donate as much as you can and make my gruelling journey worth it!
