Thanks for taking the time to visit our cycle-fundraising page.

This year we are planning to cycle East(ish) from Glasgow to China, roughly via the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan  and Kyrgystan. Our route is fairly flexible, as is our final destination within China. Both are subject to change depending on political situations (!) and we may have to take some other forms of transport if neccessarily (especially across Turkmenistan where the visa only last for 7 days!). But we estimate that we will probably cycle around 10 000km each.

It would encourage us greatly when we are cycling through the heat, howling wind, driving rain or uphill if we knew that our efforts had some higher purpose other than to improve our thigh muscles. For this reason we would like to try and raise 10 pence each per kilometer cycled for CARE International UK.

CARE is a charity that responds to humanitarian emergencies but also tackles the deep-seated causes of poverty throughout the world, including in many parts of Eastern Europe and Asia that we will pass through. Some examples of their projects include:

Educating women  http://www.careinternational.org.uk/8492/gender/gender.html.

Providing support to farmers: http://www.careinternational.org.uk/96/food-and-farming/food-and-farming.html

Providing micro-finance: http://www.careinternational.org.uk/8181/microfinance-and-markets/microfinance-and-markets.html

Over 90% of the money given to care goes directly towards poverty fighting programmes; this is one of the best figures for a UK charity.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. 100% of the money you give will go to CARE.

If you make a donation we will send you a postcard from the country of your choice * . Please email your address and country choice to hvwatson.senn@live.co.uk.

Thanks!
