Hi - thanks for coming to look at my page....as you probably know I worked in Tibet back in 2004, I loved it, it had such a HUGE impact on me it changed the way I think and feel about almost everything....
The biggest impact it had on me was the compassion and kindness of the people there who live in the harshest of conditions:
- 45.65% of Tibetans over 15 are illiterate or semi-illiterate £10 pays for a child to go to school for 1 month £25 pays for a residential school place including food, clothes and medical care.
- The per capita annual income in rural areas is only £218
- Health Care is either too far from the rural locations to use or too expensive people die from dysentery and pneumonia and are forced to live with untreated trauma such a broken bones - £50 a month will support a clinic £70 will pay to train a medical student for one month.
I then fell seriously ill myself, and without the NHS and the amazing facilities we have in this country to ensure my survival was possible, I would not be here today.
I feel even more privileged than ever before so I have signed up to travel around Tibet with Rokpa to gain an even greater insight into the amazing work they are doing out there to help the thousands of young tibetans get education and health care (all the things we have for free and sometimes can take for granted).
I have committed myself to raise £2000 in donations to Rokpa to be allowed to join this extremely privelaged group of 7 to get right into the depths of Tibet and see some of the most protected historical sites.
This is an ambition I have had since faling ill myself (part of my 'bucket list')and a dream come true so any support from my friends and family is very much appreciated.
