On Friday of this week I'll be proud to join the ranks of the 50somethings.....yes I'm really that old.
I'm expecting to be bombarded by Saga mailings any day now...but hey, I can cope!
In fact I'm going to celebrate my coming of age by running the Chicago Marathon on Sunday 11th October and my goal is to prove that at 50 I'm faster at covering 26.2 miles than I was at 30.
I've been so lucky over these last 49 years and 360 days....I've got to know so many brilliant people, I've experienced so many wonderful things, I've got the kind of friends and family that I would never have dreamed possible when I was a mere youngster looking forward to life and I've been blessed with such good health.
But not everyone is so lucky, and thats why I'd like to try and raise some money for a charity that does some outstanding work for groups of young people who are suffering with serious or life limiting illnesses.
"Over The Wall" provides residential activity camps for these young people to give them a chance to taste the kind of things that I know, I can often take for granted.
So, if you can support this important cause then please dig deep. I know I'll certainly deal with the pain of hitting the wall alot better on sunday if I know that we are raising some money to help "Over The Wall".
I'll bore you all with the tales of the race when I return. Thanks so much.
