Story

On my 30th birthday, I will be, alongside a number of friends and colleagues, shaving off my beard in aid of "Friends of Sussex Hospices".

As the son of the landlord of the Laughing Fish in Isfield, we have held a number of events in support of them, and found them extremely good to work with on a variety of events. I also appreciate the fact that they support all 12 hospices in Sussex, a cause I believe to be an extremely good and worthwhile one.

The original start of this idea was a drunken agreement amongst friends and family that I should shave my beard off, a matter that I have been very stubborn about for a long time.

I am delighted to be joined by our Bar Manager, James Pearson ,who will be shaving off his very large ginger sideburns and Dan Johnson who sports an even mightier beard than my own. Also on board is local bricklayer Mark, known as Bacca, who will be shaving off his long hair. We have other potential candidates that may join us on the night.

Anyone who knows me will know that I am very protective over my hair and beard, and so will appreciate this is a very big step. Lets make it worthwhile and raise as much money as possible for a very worthy cause.

Hospices don't cure people but they do alot of healing.  Hospice care doesn't add days to life but it adds quality of life to the days that remain.  Friends of Sussex Hospices champions and raises funds for the twelve hospice care providers that serve the adults and children of Sussex. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and, since it started 21 years ago, has distributed £1.7 million.
