Story
Thank you for visiting Heston's Just Giving page. On Friday 23rd July at The Silverstone Classic Festival, Heston will be racing in the Silverstone Celebrity Race 2010 in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund. The charity was set-up in memory of the 1966 England football captain who died at only 51 years-old from bowel cancer. The disease is the UK’s second biggest cause of cancer death claiming a shocking 44 lives every single day. The Fund aims to save thousands of lives lost needlessly to the disease by increasing public awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and raising funds for medical research into the disease. The work we fund helps scientists across the country examine new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat bowel cancer. Your sponsorship will help to raise vital funds for one particular project – a clinical trial into bowel cancer treatment which is the largest of its kind in the world. The trial is called FOXFIRE and aims to find out if combining a new radiotherapy treatment with traditional chemotherapy treatment is more effective at killing bowel cancer cells once they have spread. If each celebrity taking part in the race can raise £2,000 in sponsorship, the Bobby Moore Fund would be able to support this clinical trial for six months and potentially identify a new treatment solution to save lives in the future. Thank you for reading Heston's page and for helping us to support the Bobby Moore Fund. If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact Debs. Many thanks!
