The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am competing in the Crondall Triathalon on June 6th to raise funds for our branch of the National Autistic Society in Alton, Hampshire.

It's an outstanding group, really busy and active, working hard to improve the lives of autistic children and their families. It's really just a group of mums and dads of autistic kids who are giving of their time to help others, but it has been a huge support to me in recent months in coming to terms with Marcus's autism and what it may mean for our lives and our future.

I want to raise £500, which will pay for a coach and entrance fees to take the children and their carers on a big adventure. It could be the Zoo - Legoland - Monkey World - Longleat - Chessington...... who knows??? but knowing that we have the funds we'll be able to book in advance on a quiet day, and organise things so that the children have the best possible chance to enjoy themselves.

Autistic children love the anticipation and the reality of a big day out just like other children. However, the excitement and over stimulation of the day can cause them significant anxiety related problems which can present to the general public as bad behaviour. Families with autistic children often avoid taking their children to theme parks and zoos etc because it can feel like such hard work. The money raised here will afford our children a great day out away from the gauntlet of the weekend or holiday melee, they will be with other children who understand their 'rules of engagement' and with other parents who feel completely at ease when things start to go 'pear shaped' in public !!!

If you donate you'll be helping to provide some families with autistic children with a really special experience and...................I'll send you a pic of myself after the race!!! (Hmmm - not pretty!)

Many many thanks - Hilary x
