HI GUYS

I’m running the Hastings Half Marathon on the 25 of March to raise some funds for a Christian charity called Greenwich Youth for Christ. More at www.greenwichyfc.or.uk

I lived on the estate we work on from June 2004 to July 2009. During my time on the estate I saw first hand the gang and drug culture that was breaking down the community. I was very fortunate to stay clear of all the criminal activities that went on because I had positive things in my life to distract me: I played semi-pro football and went to college and above all my Christian beliefs kept me going. Recently I was given an opportunity by GYFC to go back and work on the estate as a youth worker. It was very scary at first but it was one of the best decisions of my life. I feel like I understand the problems young people face so I want to do my part and make a difference with young people who are at risk of gang and drug activities.

PLASE sponsor my half marathon run so we can continue the work; my organisation badly needs the funds. I want to continue to be a role model to the young people and help them choose a good path in life. My biggest fear is to go to work one day and be told that one of the young people has stabbed someone or been stabbed. I’m tired of hearing how young people are dying on our streets because of knife and gun crime. I am standing up for all that is good about young people by running this race to raise awareness and keep  organisations like GYFC going so they young people can have every opportunity to flourish.
