Yes, I am taking on cycling's equivalent of the ascent of Everest in stilettos, carrying a sheep under each arm. London to Amsterdam 200km in just 2 days. Gasp.
"No Ian, it simply can't be done" you say. "All those dykes, so many tulip traps, and the polders, beware the polders. Whatever they are." But it can, and I shall. So I give you two choices - sponsor me, or join me.
As you probably know, the onset of acute parenthood in recent years, as well as my dodgy knees (don't forget the knees), have reduced physical activity to almost nil. Those of you who remember me as that fleet footed, mesmerising 5-a-side footballer might be shocked at the crumpled wreck I have become. Or not. So why the change?
Well, over the last 3 years working for the Child Bereavement Charity I have met many inspiring people, seen some people do amazing things in awful circumstances, and seen the great impact that appropriate professional support can have on bereaved families, and what it means to them. I have become really inspired by the organisation, and the ambition that it has, to make sure that all bereaved children and families are provided with the support that will enable them to rebuild shattered lives.
At last I have found a challenge event that I could, just about, manage, which people (preferably you) might deem worthy of sponsorship. Even if I have to push the bike up the hills. And along some flat bits. I have bought some new wheels, got some padded shorts for Christmas, gritted my teeth, and signed up.
Please aid my every pedally revolution, by sponsoring me with huge amounts of cash (or any), and help to rebuild the lives of children and families. I have seen the outcomes of the work and it really will make a huge difference.
Thanks in advance, Ian.
