Story
I volunteered to cycle from London to Paris to raise money for Independent Age. Then I broke two fingers. (I also failed my cycling proficiency test). But I will not let this stop me!
I'll be braving the 220 mile journey to France with a wonky hand because old people are the best.
Sometimes old age can bring along a sense of loneliness and seclusion. We want the elderly to stay connected - whether it's being able to keep in touch with family and friends, being able to pass the time reading and learning about stuff they love, or setting up a POF profile (hey, it's never too late.)
Here's a more eloquent explanation:
At VoucherCodes.co.uk we have teamed up with Independent Age to work on an exciting volunteering project to help improve the lives of a part of the community often left behind in today's technological age. It is estimated in the UK that 5.3 million people over the age of 65 have never been online. This part of the community often live in isolation with 3.8 million people living alone. As an internet based company, we feel that we can make a difference to people's lives by helping them gain the confidence to get connected online. We will be partnering with the charity to supply computers/tablets to some of their members before our team volunteers to carry out training sessions on how to use the internet.
To fund the project, a number of brave members of Team VC will be risking extreme saddle pain and aching limbs by taking on a three day cycle challenge between our London and Paris offices at the end of September. Please help make our efforts worthwhile by helping us reach our fundraising target.
So please take a minute to donate a couple of quid if you can. This lady will really appreciate it: https://twitter.com/baddiewinkle
