The Grand Appeal is the Bristol Children's Hospital Charity, transforming the lives of sick children from Bristol, the South West and beyond. Help save the lives of sick children, provide pioneering medical equipment and keep families together by donating or fundraising for The Grand Appeal.

Story

This poorly little girl in the photo is Ella, daughter of my friend Nadia Durrant. Ella was born at 25.5 weeks in May 2013, and so has a weakened immune system. She recently caught 'Respiratory syncytial virus' (RSV) - a life-threatening virus that causes respiratory infections - and Ella spent much of December in a very serious condition in intensive care.

Thanks to the amazing staff and facilities at Bristol Children's Hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Ella battled hard and pulled through, getting home just in time for Christmas, and is now on a long road to recovery.

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal is the only charity fundraising exclusively for the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children; it is entirely independent from the NHS and receives no statutory funding. More info here: www.grandappeal.org.uk  To help the charity raise money to care for children like Ella, Ella's aunty Milly and I have decided to fundraise together.

So more about my 30 hour challenge. Basically I've designed it to push me to my limits - mentally and physically - and as long as I don't break my ankles upon sky dive landing, I should be able to complete it!

Mental challenge: At 8am on Saturday 16 May near Bristol, I'll be ascending up to 13,000 feet in a plane and throwing myself out, falling at a speed of about 120mph for one minute, before the parachute (hopefully!) deploys.

Physical challenge: Once my feet have (literally) hit the ground I'll be bombing it back to Chester to run the Chester Half Marathon at 9am on Sunday. This will comprise 13.1 "undulating" (read 'hilly'!) miles - I'll need to do some serious training!

Anyway, if you could possibly donate something on here I'd be eternally grateful - I promise not to do another of these challenges and harass you this year! And no matter how small, your pennies will be so gratefully received by the charity - you have no idea just how much your donation will help them.

FYI: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
