Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 11/12 leg 5 · 24 December 2011

Tujatane, Tongabezi Trust School educates Zambian children from the local community, in an area where the availability of quality education is scarce. It has grown from a pre-school of 15 children to a primary school with over 290 pupils, and is completely funded by donations.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you may know, I took part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. My adventure started on the 24th December 2011 (Actual Race Start is 31st July 2011) when I sailed from Gold Coast Australia via Singapore to Qingdao, China. We had the amazing added bonus of coming first in that particular race and enjoyed an incredible reception into the Chinese Olympic port. I was then hugely flattered to be offered the opportunity to rejoin the boat on the 7th June in NYC to bring her home again on this last leg via Den Helder, Netherlands. What had been a lifelong dream of mine took on a personal and very emotional journey sailing into my birthtown following in the footsteps of various family members including my Father. It has been one of the most incredible challenges of my life and I loved every second of it.

Having caught the bug I am now taking part in weekend racing but as my challenge for the year, will race "The Fastnet" on a much smaller boat with only 7 crew. This will make for much choppier conditions and is often talked about as the most gruelling and tactically challenging of the classic offshore races. 300 boats are set to take part in this 608 mile race from Cowes to the Fastnet Rock off South West Ireland, back around the outside of the Scilly Isles off South West England to the finish line in Plymouth.

Having worked at Tongabezi for 3.5 years Tujatane is a charity very dear to my heart and I felt this was a great opportunity to continue to raise money for the school and I would sincerely appreciate any contribution you will make. To those of you who have already contrubuted a huge thank you. I am now in discussions with the school with final decisions on what we will achieve with the money raised and will keep you all informed.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Just to let you know that all money raised will go to Tujatane as I have covered all costs to take part in the Clipper Race and all further racing myself.

So please dig deep and donate now. THANK YOU
