Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Sarah was raising money for a school in the Gambia - a great cause and a great run.</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 140%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; background: white; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto;"><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: &amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;serif&amp;quot;; color: black; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;">BUT - the Hooky Pint is fighting back!! On 22nd April 2012 the Pint will be running in the London Marathon to try to reclaim his Guinness World Record! This time I am determined that it will not be such a near-death experience for me, so I am doing my marathon training carrying the equivalent weight of the costume, which is 11.5 lb. I have invested in a weights vest designed for running and am now up to 13.5 lb (the idea being that the Pint will feel light on the day and I&rsquo;ll fly round!) The downside to this plan is that the weights vest looks more like an ammo vest and I look like something out of a Terminator movie when I am out running. In an attempt to avoid getting wrongly identified as a terrorist and shot, I have been wearing a running jacket over the vest &ndash; but this is also not a great look, as I realised when Emma saw me about to set off on a run and asked &lsquo; What&rsquo;s with the shoulder pads? You look like Lady Gaga!&rsquo; So, if you spot a heavily laden, bright yellow, Lady Gaga/Arnold Schwarzenegger lookalike running around Hook Norton/Chipping Norton over the next few weeks, now you&rsquo;ll understand why!</span></p> </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 140%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; background: white; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto;"><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: &amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;serif&amp;quot;; color: black; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;">On a more serious note, over the last 2 years I have been privileged to work with one of the children's wish charities and have arranged wishes for children suffering from leukaemia and lymphoma.&nbsp; Some of the children&nbsp;have come through 2 years of gruelling treatment and have a good chance of a permanent cure. This is a wonderful testament to the work of Leukaemia &amp; Lymphoma Research, which has brought us to a stage where nine out of ten survive the most common form of childhood leukaemia. However, a little boy with lymphoma who we&nbsp;arranged a wish for&nbsp;died shortly afterwards and it is tragedies like this that make me determined not to stop running until we have found a cure for these terrible diseases. So please, sponsor me and help me raise money to fund more of this vital research.</span><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;,&#39;serif&#39;; color: black; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">&nbsp; </span></span></p> <p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 140%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; background: white; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto;"><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: &amp;quot;Times New Roman&amp;quot;,&amp;quot;serif&amp;quot;; color: black; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;">Thank you, from Gill and the Hooky Pint xx</span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 140%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; background: white; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto;">&nbsp;</p> </p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 140%; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; background: white; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto;">&nbsp;</p>
