Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and supporting our ongoing Kennel Costs Fundraising Appeal.
We are mainly a co-ordinating rescue helping stray dogs in Local Authority pounds facing euthanasia after completing their statutory 7 days. We help many pounds but commit to one South Wales pound in particular to take all their strays, and the last 12 months has seen an unprecedented number of strays come in. Through the hard work of the Hope Rescue team we have managed to ensure a place of safety for every one of these dogs either in a foster home, kennel space or with another rescue. However, the associated costs have hit us exceptionally hard. In addition, in January 2012 we were also asked to help another Local Authority in South Wales whose dogs would otherwise face euthanasia and it is our aim to be able to also commit to take all their strays.
We lease private boarding kennel spaces as a "half way house" for those dogs in the pound that have completed their 7 days but do not have a foster home or rescue space secured. These kennel space literally are lifesavers, without them many of the less popular breeds, or harder to rehome dogs would be euthanised as they would have nowhere to go. These dogs are the at the very heart and soul of Hope Rescue and why we exist in the first place. The majority of the kennel are bull breeds, which for various reasons - mainly due to the sheer numbers resulting from over breeding - are difficult to find foster or rescue spaces for. Whilst our immediate priority is fundraising, the Appeal will be supported in 2012 by an awareness campaign focussing on the bull breed crisis. As a Rescue we believe we have a duty to tackle the root causes as well as "clearing up the mess".
