This year at Northern Ireland Children's Hospice we cared for over 370 children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, in both our inpatient unit - Horizon House and in the local community. We rely on your generous donations to continue to fund our vital services.

Story

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Hospice Honey's JustGiving page.

Us 5 ladies (Janet Grimason, Naomh McManus, Namrata Subherwal and Rachel Ennis and me, Nolene McFerran) are going to take part in this years Belfast City Marathon in aid of the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice. The Northern Ireland Children's Hospice cares for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and supports their families and those close to them.

This care is provided by the Hospice across Northern Ireland and with currently over 750 life-limited children and young people living in Northern Ireland, services are stretched. These children have very complex needs often requiring 24 hour care and many will die before reaching adulthood.

Unfortunately, this is something that we have first-hand experience of as little Oisin McFerran, my son, is one of these children. Having experienced a prolonged starvation of oxygen owing to complications at birth, Oisin is now severly disabled, deaf/blind and has complex medical needs requiring oxygen, suction and to be tube fed. Luckily we have been able to access the Hospice services and it has made so much difference to our lives. We use the hydrotherapy pool at the Hospice which Oisin loves, and as we cannot take him to a public pool, the Hospice gives us the chance to spend quality family time that we would not otherwise get. This is just one of a wide range of services that the Hospice ensure families benefit from (among valuable respite services, music and play therapy, light, sound and other sensory stimulation). The Hospice receive limited funding from the government and rely heavily on the kindness of the public to help provide services to families that really need them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you so much!

Nolene McFerran
