We believe rhinos are magnificent. And they are endangered. To survive, they need a safe and diverse world. Yet today, they face immense threats. With your fundraising and donations, we can work alongside expert partners and move closer towards our vision: for all rhino species to thrive.

Story

Here is the latest rhino news from Save the Rhino / Chester Zoo - Zuri gave birth to a male calf Embu at the end of June - photo No1 shows them having their first outing after the birth. Now there is a real prince worthy of the name!!  The zoo work closely with 'Save the Rhino' with their black rhino conservation programme.

Oh yes and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, by the way.

The awesome rhino - how to do them justice in just a few words?

I've long had a fascination with these magnificent animals and was recently privilaged to be a 'zoo keeper for the day' at Chester Zoo helping to look after nine Black Rhinos and two Indian Rhinos. You can see some of them in the photos.

It was a fabulous day, with a brilliant group of keepers and interns doing some great work for rhino conservation, both at the zoo and elsewhere in the world.

It really is a massively sad indictment of us as human beings that rhinos are so threatened as a species, whether by destruction of their habitats or through such woefully ill-informed ideas about the medicinal properties of rhino horn.

Apart from their simple moral 'right' to continue to exist in their natural habitat, they also play an integral role in an 'ecological system' on which many other animals and plants depend.  So by protecting the rhino we can also protect many other species.

Thankfully there is still hope due to the efforts of organisations such as Chester Zoo and of course Save the Rhino International, which is why I am so pleased to be able to cycle the RideLondon-Surrey 100mile challenge on 4 August 2013 to raise money for them.

So dig deep and donate now - we simply can't allow the magnificent rhino to disappear off the planet, and certainly not on our 'watch'.
