Story
The museum trustees and staff have agreed that an urgent short-term requirement is the provision of a new café facility. The current café building is more than 20 years old and requires significant repair work if it is to continue to be used for its present role.
However an options appraisal process has determined that a more economical and simpler solution would be to source a new building. This would not only provide improved facilities for visitors and staff, but can also provide an increased seating capacity to help cater for increasing visitor numbers.
Various activities are now being planned to support this scheme are being called ‘Project Panini’ and this will encompass the selection of an appropriate new building design and the associated fund raising campaign for the scheme.
Options for the location of the new café are still being evaluated; whilst it still could be located on the Southfield Site it does seem more likely that it will be located on the main site, which is closer to the current water, waste and electrical services.
Contributions towards improving these important visitor facilities can be made via this fund raising page.
We look forward to receiving your support for ‘Project Panini’ and regular project updates will be featured on the Southfield Development section of the museum website.
