Story

Dear everyone,

Thank you all SO much for your most generous donations.

When I asked my four sons to donate £5 each to the Viping Village, I had no idea they were going to extend my request to our large family far and wide and some dear friends.

The amount you have all raised has been overwhelming.

Rather than write you individually, the boys have advised me to thank you in the modern manner via this website! But, of course, you are all invited to my lovely new home where I can thank you in person.

Love,

Mum, Pegs, Margaret, Grannie and Great-Grannie...

A MESSAGE FROM VIPINGO VILLAGE

"To everyone who has donated to The Vipingo Village Fund, an ENORMOUS thank you. With the money raised from Margaret's generous gesture of donating her birthday to us we are going to be able to build a truly exciting Adventure Playground for the new school premises, something which we know will bring happiness, fun and laughter to our little waifs and strays for many years to come, so from us ALL and especially from the kids at The Future Hope Nursery School"

THANK YOU!'

Hello all,

This page has been created by Hugh, Peter, James and Anthony to celebrate our Mum’s 80th birthday on 13 October.

We know that many of her family and close friends would like to wish her a Happy Birthday so we thought we would share the following request with more than just the four of us.

Mum has made it clear that she does not want what she calls a “fuss” to be made so a party is "out of the question".  Nor does she want any presents.  As you may know, she has recently moved house.  She says she has thrown away everything she doesn't want and kept everything she does.  "The last thing I want is any more stuff".  You can hear her saying it!

So, rather than presents, Mum would like us to make donations to Rolvenden’s ‘twin’ charity which is The Vipingo Village Fund for the Future Hope School.  But she is adamant that she doesn't want anyone to go overboard.  Perhaps just a small gesture to help these kids in Kenya, where a little goes a long way.  Mum has mentioned that £5 a head would be ample.

Inevitably, because she does not have Internet access, she does not know that we have set up this page (which is a first for The Vipingo Village fund and new ground for the charity).  But she will be coming up to London on Friday 16 October and we will be showing her this page then. We will also print off a list of donors for her to keep.

LET’S TRY AND KEEP THIS A SECRET UNTIL THEN.

One feature about Justgiving is that the donors and the amount they have donated is made public (unless they choose to stay anonymous which rather ruins the point as far as a birthday is concerned and, in this case, would be rather a pity).  However, the last thing we want to do is turn this into some sort of bidding war or to embarrass anyone in any way.

So what we are looking for is as many ‘fivers’ as we can.  This is how it will work:

Take Hugh’s family – Hugh, Ricky, Kris, Nik and Becky.  Hugh could donate £25 representing a fiver from each of his family.  Or he could donate £10 from ‘Hugh, Ricki and the kids’.  Or he could donate £5 from ‘ Hugh and all the family’.

Rule 1. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DONATE MORE ‘FIVERS’ THAN YOU HAVE CHILDREN IN YOUR FAMILY.

Rule 2. ONLY OUR GENERATION AND OUR CHILDREN CAN DONATE. OUR CHILDREN’S CHILDREN CANNOT DONATE.

In other words, Pete is not allowed to donate for his grand-daughter Viktoria - only his children Tom and Tanje (if he wants to). For those who don’t know Pete is a grandfather, well you do now! Poor old boy.

So please don’t go further than you would like to. Mum does not know we are sending a message out to a wider group of family and friends, so any extra ‘fivers’ would be a bonus. And, really, this is all she wants.

Hopefully, she will be really chuffed by the amount of fivers we collect.

Many thanks in advance to all of you.
