Story

Hi everyone and thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page which is for Hugo and Frances to do a 'SPONSORED TOF SCOFF' on the 20th September together to raise as much money as possible for their amazing charity which helps them and us so much, and also to raise as much awareness as we can for their condition that they were born with.

Hugo and Frances were both born with a TOF O/A (born unable to swallow). This meant that they were both born with a gap in their oesphagus so there was no direct path from their mouth to their stomach, and the bottom end of their oesphagus joined onto their airway. So every time they took a breath, the air got pushed and trapped in their stomachs and this pushed all of the stomach acid into their lungs. So they were drowning with every breath that they took. They needed life saving surgery to correct this (which for both of them, was the first of many more surgeries to come), and they will have to live with being a TOF for the rest of their lives.

Life for a TOF can be very hard, as they are left with scar tissue on their oesphagus and airway where the surgery was performed, which can lead to breathing difficulties for them, as well as the scar tissue of the oesphagus over time narrows, which leaves the child unable to swallow their food and leads to choking. When this happens a further operation is needed every time to 'stretch' that scar tissue back to its 'normal' size so they can once again eat without choking on every meal.

So to set a challenge for our little TOFS and to raise as much money as we can for this amazing charity, we have decided to ,'safely', do a SPONSORED TOF SCOFF. Which celebrates just how far and amazingly they have pregressed with their eating and can now enjoy a range of different foods.

The TOFs charity research into the condition and offer help, support and advice to fellow tofs and tof parents, they do not receive any government funding and they only raise money from events like these, so please sponsor as much as you can for such a great charity that is so very close to our hearts.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
