Hugo was born 3 months premature and with a TOF (tracheo-osphageal fistula), which meant that he was born unable to swallow. He had a big gap in his oesphagus (so he did not have a path between his mouth and stomach) and his airway was also joined above his stomach. This meant that whenever Hugo took a breath the air got trapped in his stomach and forced all the stomach acid into his lungs- drowning him with every breath.
He needed life saving surgery when he was 1 day old, which was the 1st of many to come and spent a total of 6 and half months in hospital from birth.
Having a TOF will always be part of Hugo's life which leaves him with difficulty to eat food, is always in risk of choking as his oesphagus narrows and needs further operations to 'stretch' it again.
We are raising money for the TOFS charity that offers valuable help, advice and support to all TOF families. We are doing this by having a Big Sponsored Splash at our local swimming pool and hoping to raise lots of money for this great charity that is so close to our hearts.
