This summer term after I have finished my Common Entrance I will be going on a 30 mile, 3 day walk with a 16Kg backpack for charity. It will be in Snowdonia, where I will be attempting to conquer the most challenging peaks in the area! All eleven walkers are leaving Maidwell this summer. The charity we are supporting is the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This charity helps people with Type 1 diabetes and eventually aims to find a cure for this disabling and life threatening disease.
This charity is particularly connected with our walking group due to the fact that one of our party is a Type 1 diabetic and so we are trying to raise as much money as possible to try and rid my friend and fellow walker Felix of this horrible life long disease.
The reason it is so horrible is that 3 times a day he has to stab himself with insulin. He has a needle in his arm 24/7, which measures his glucose level. This was provided by JDRF and has made an active 13 year old's life a lot easier, because he used to have to stab himself and put the blood into a glucose measurer. Now due to JDRF's help he doesn't have to go through this pain every 15mins.
