Story

Updated on Sep 25th 2012 at 11:11 AM from the JustGiving API

Mission complete!! Receiving my official certificate for completing my climb was one of my proudest moments. This was almost a year in the making and I'm thrilled it's made a difference for Macmillan. One last request: Please help me reach my extended target!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For years now, I've come to pages like this to support friends and family, and now I've got a great challenge of my own.  I am going to set off in September 2012 with a group of like-minded individuals to climb to the highest point in Africa - Mt Kilimanjaro - at 5896 metres (19,162 feet)

To do this I've pledged to raise a minimum of £4,300 which is more money than I have ever raised in the past. Between now and D-Day, I'm also determined to get into the best shape of my adult life.

I'm so happy to be doing this for Macmillan Cancer Support, both for personal reasons and because it is the official charity for Forever Living Products, the company that I am proudly affiliated with as an International Distributor.

I'll be 66 when I make this climb and one thing that I have learned in my life is that I am at my best when I have a big goal to make me excited about getting out of bed in the morning.  For me this is a massively exciting goal!

I'll be taking lots of my own products during this challenge.  Lots of Aloe Vera, as well as FAB our Forever Active Boost energy drink, and our newest product ARGI which uses a Nobel Scientist's discovery that an amino acid called L-Arginine hugely improves cardiovascular function when exercising.  So this will be a great way for me to experience the effects under 'field condititions'.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep, donate now, and help me reach my Goal.

With Gratitude,

Humphrey

UPDATES to my fundraising journey

24th February Update (1): Help make my birthday a Happy one - for me and for Macmillan.  Please be generous!

WOW! What a birthday!  Almost £700 raised through my wonderful friends and family.  THANK YOU!  We were in Budapest on the actual day attending our annual European convention.  The icing on the cake was being presented with a cheque for almost €10,000 by the owner of the Company that we are affiliated with. One of the reasons that I became involved with this particular company is to have the means to give more to charity.  And now I can!

Update (2): Mt Snowdon Training Climb on June 10th: 8 of my fellow climbers and I got a good idea of the stamina required for our September Adventure when we set off at 9am with our leaders Sue and Nikki to conquer Mt Snowdon in what can only be described as challenging weather! We reached the summit at 3pm.  I was soaked, tired, and my legs felt like custard but we all did it.  I have a new appreciation of what is meant by 'stamina' and I am redoubling my efforts at the gym.

Update (3): Walk from Hastings to Rye on June 23rd:  There is a great series of walks near London described in a TimeOut Book "Country Walks Volume 2".  I love the sea, so decided to follow the route they described from Hastings to Rye.  19 Km took me 7 hours, up hill, down dale, cliff top, by the sea, and many farmer's fields (I avoided the one with the bull :-)  This is all about getting used to long days on the trot, and it was a beautiful day.  England has such lovely countryside.  I'm determined to do a few more of these before September.
