About Us!

Founded in 2003, IJS Consultants are a leading independent Safety and Risk Management Consultancy with offices throughout the UK.

IJS Consultants has a proud history of raising funds for charitable causes.  Each year we embark on a series of fundraising events and donate the money raised to a number of charities as selected by the IJS staff.

Staff of IJS Consultants have selected the Plymouth Oncology Centre at Derriford Hospital (Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust) as one of their Charities of the Year for 2010-2012.

In order to raise funds for our previous Charities of the Year, the IJS team have completed the “Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge”, a trek over the summits of Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside as well as enduring the “Coast to Coast Bike-ride” from Whitehaven to Tynemouth, raising in excess of £8550 in the process.

The IJS team respect the fine work that the Plymouth Oncology Centre does and want to help ensure that this work may continue.

About the Charity!

Plymouth Oncology Centre is located in a purpose built unit, which opened in February 1998, and is situated on level 2 of Derriford Hospital. It contains state of the art equipment providing radiotherapy services for the local population, and provides tertiary cancer services for the far South West. There are comprehensive treatment facilities for the majority of cancers. The oncology centre has its own outpatient area with three consulting rooms, six examination rooms and one counselling room, and a team of nurses provides outpatient chemotherapy. A full complement of cancer nurse specialists are also available. In patient treatment is given on Brent ward.

A clinical trials unit runs many studies, including National Cancer Research Network trials. Stereotactic radiotherapy and prostate brachytherapy are particular interests of the unit.

There is a Macmillan Centre (the Mustard Tree) linked to the Plymouth Oncology Centre, with volunteers and counsellors who provide support and complementary therapy for patients and their families. There is also an active palliative care team who work closely with the Plymouth Oncology Centre.
