The Aspen-ISIS partnership began in October 2007, as part of Aspen’s global corporate social responsibility programme. It has been an amazing partnership which has shown us all the exponential power of linking the business sector with those in need in the developing world. We believe the Aspen-ISIS partnership is unique in the financial services sector, both in its depth of engagement with local communities and in the degree it has become an embedded part of Aspen’s corporate culture.
From September 2007 to August 2011, Aspen will have invested US$ 1.2 million towards ISIS’s work in community development programmes at Kiwoko Hospital in Uganda.
In addition to the support we receive from the Aspen Group, hundreds of staff working in Aspen’s offices in the US, Bermuda and UK have chosen to fundraise for our programmes. By the end of March 2011, Aspen employees had raised an astonishing additional US$ 278,045 through a variety of innovative fund raising activities. From climbing mountains, to window washing, flipping pancakes, running marathons and putting on rock shows, Aspen staff have been beyond phenomenal.
We are delighted with Aspen’s initiative to partner with us on this project as part of their commitment to support communities globally. This partnership has directly resulted in thousands of lives being improved, hundreds of lives saved, and many families able to support themselves independently in the future. The Aspen-ISIS partnership has also resulted in the building of an updated NICU and new maternity ward which will serve thousands of mothers and babies for years to come.
The ISIS team has worked hard with the Aspen committee and staff to ensure that this partnership has positive outcomes at every level. We hope that this is a partnership that will continue for years to come: benefiting people from as diverse worlds as the reinsurance community and the rural community of Luwero, Uganda.
