The Great River Race · 5 September 2009

The WCIT Charity is a national charity with a City of London home. Our purpose is to use the power of tech for impact through digital inclusion, education, charitable, and public engagement initiatives across the entire UK.

Story

Update; we did it!  Not only that, but we completed it in a fantastic time of 02:48.09.  It was a hard race, but the atmoshpere at the finish in Richmond with approx 2000 competitors plus support was great.

Many thanks to all involved in the crew, and also thanks to Gary Moore and Kerri Mansfield for support.

On September 5th 2009, the ITC is once again taking part in a spectacular event which attracts around 300 crews from all over the globe.  From Greenwich to Richmond, following the Thames upstream for 22 miles (but with the benefit of the incoming tide, thank goodness) the Company's Thames Waterman Cutter "Cito" will be rowing alongside other Livery Companies in the Great River Race (more details at: http://www.greatriverrace.co.uk/).

Traditionally all Livery companies owned barges as a means of transport for their Masters and members of their Courts. They also used them to take part in city ceremonial occasions, such as the Lord Mayor’s Show which was traditionally held on the river (hence the word "floats").

This year however, we are using it as a fundraising event.  Please support the ITC Crew.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
