The Smiles Foundation is a fantastic charity giving hope to hundreds of people in Romania who otherwise would have very little. I visited last year and couldn't believe there was still poverty on that scale in Europe in 2009. In one village there was a family of 8 people living in a small shack with a dirt floorm, swarming with flies, with no electricity or sanitation. It was horrendous (see photos opposite). One of Smiles projects is to provide temporary housing in the form of a shipping container until proper housing can be built. We talk about there being poverty in the UK but we live like kings in comparison.
