Across the big blue on the big blue boat.

Clipper Round the World Race · 31 December 2020 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well I have done some stupid things in my time, and this is right up there. Especially if you know just how much I don’t know about sailing. Basically, I’ve signed up to race a 70 foot yacht about a
quarter of the way round the world with a load of other people just as bad at sailing as me and in some cases worse. Crazy right, be under no illusion this is a serious business, people have died doing this. During the last race they
lost a boat which was unlucky enough to hit a rock, in fact the biggest rock in the world, Africa. Luckily there are a couple of guys on board who know what
they are doing and who are extremely motivated not only to keep the boat afloat
but to win races. They are up against it.
The boat is the big blue boat, team UNICEF and we are after your money.
One of the biggest challenges of the natural world, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is an endurance test like no other. With no previous sailing experience necessary, competitors take part in a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht.
A leading international event, the race has continued its successful partnership with Unicef, the world’s leading organisation for children, which started in April 2015. The race and its international crew members are enthusiastic about this long-term commitment to raising awareness and vital funds to help keep the world's most vulnerable children safe from danger.
This page has been set up by Ian Gilbert who is proud to be racing the Big Blue UNICEF boat on leg 7 (round the USA via the Panama Canal) and leg 8 the glory leg home across the Atlantic. Keep up with events on my community page
