Ian's AprilFC Falklands Yomp

Ian Langley's AprilFC Falklands Yomp · 8 February 2015
By undertaking the Falkland Islands Yomp in February 2015, members of the April Fools Club will be supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Seaside Apartments Appeal to build two much-needed seaside apartments for members of the RAF family. The two new apartments in Rustington, West Sussex, will provide a stress-free environment for RAF personnel and their families to relax, reconnect, and enjoy quality time together following injury, illness or other life challenging events.
Myself and a group of friends intend to replicate the 1982 yomp across the Falkland Islands, famously undertaken by 45 Commando during the liberation of the Falkland Islands. The yomp is a physically demanding 120km trek across difficult terrain consisting of peat bog, tussock grass and rock in winds(and often rain) typically in excess of 20 mph. We will set off from San Carlos Bay on the west coast of East Falkland on 9th February, arriving in Stanley around 5 days later. We will camp out and use sheep-sheds and outhouses for overnight rest. Whilst nothing can truly replicate the hardships and difficulty experienced by our armed forces in liberating the islands, the expedition is still a unique challenge and I hope that you will do what you can to support this excellent charity.
For those of you that know me well, you'll appreciate the hardest part of the challenge, will be the 30 hour military flight to Stanley in economy!
