Story

WE FINISHED !!!!!!!!

Just over 100 hours of cycling in 9 days, many sores and minor injuries and lots of sleep deprivation.... but we finished

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Ride Across Britain 2011. 960 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End in 9 days (11th -19th June 2011). During that time we climbed a total of 67,000 ft - more than twice the height of Mount Everest!

We are raising money for the Sarcoma Trust which works to raise awareness of these rare cancers, raise funding for research and helps support and inform sarcoma patients and their families. You can view more about the Trust and their work at www.sarcomatrust.org.uk

Cancer unfortunately affects far too many of us both directly and indirectly. I would like to highlight two such experiences that explain why I am raising funds for this excellent cause.

At Deutsche Bank our dear colleague, Rita Saverino was diagnosed with a sarcoma related illness. I am delighted to say that following extensive treatment and surgery, Rita is on the road to recovery and all of her colleagues and friends continue to pray for her complete and speedy recovery.

Georgia Cordery a student at Brentwood School who was diagnosed with a sarcoma cancer just three days before her 13th birthday. Despite undergoing intense chemotherapy treatment Georgia and her family selflessly established the Georgia's Teenage Cancer Appeal to raise funds for research into her rare form of cancer and to support other families at the teenage cancer ward at University College, London (UCLH).

Georgia's Teenage Cancer Appeal has to-date raised in excess of £270,000. If you would like to find out more about Georgia's cancer use the folllowing link www.gtca.info/node

Despite a courageous battle against her illness, Georgia passed away on 22nd May 2010 a few weeks short of her 15th birthday.

Georgia is sadly missed in the Brentwood community however her legacy lives on in the wonderful charitable work in which she fully participated.

Georgia and Rita are beacons of hope, their selfless commitment to raising funds to tackle this insidious disease, their bravery and strength in the face of adversity are a challenge to all of us and while this ride pales into insignificance compared to their challenge, we have been successful.
