The Challenge

Last year, we raised over £2,000 for charity by playing 101 holes at South Winchester Golf Club in a single day. To do so, we had to play from dawn until dusk - almost 15 hours of golf! Amazingly, though unsurprisingly tired, we both felt that we could have played for longer, but in order to do so we knew we'd have to find a course where we could count on longer hours of daylight. The answer was simple, play a course where the sun doesn’t set - in Iceland!

Golfklubber Kidjaberg

Situated in southern Iceland, approximately 80km from Reykjavik, the 5,933 yards (Par 71) Golfklubber Kidjaberg will provide a stiff challenge. The course is in perfect harmony with the surroundings, hugging the craggy contours of the vulcanic landscape and the thundering Hvita (White River). Precision off the tees will be needed if the formidable rough is to be avoided, and the small greens are to be reached without timeconsuming searching for wayward drives.

The Itinerary

Flying to Reykjavik on 25 June, we'll spend some time familiarising ourselves with the course and playing practice rounds. To keep our costs down we'll even be sleeping in on-course accommodation (it's described as a ‘cabin’ but appears to double as the green-keepers’ equipment shed!). IceTee24 will tee-off in the early hours of 28 June with the aim of completing 144 holes in 24 hours.

The Charity

As with the 101 Hole Challenge, we'll again be raising funds for the Wessex Neurological Centre’s 'Smile4Rich Appeal'. The latest appeal aims to raise £200,000 to equip one of the Centre’s operating theatres with a new, state-of-the-art operating microscope fitted with the FL800 Fluorescence Imaging System. This revolutionary equipment will provide surgeons with real-time images of blood-flow in the brain during neurosurgical procedures.

Obviously, we'd love to beat our 101 hole record, but we also hope to exceed the £2,100 raised in 2009 for this extremely worthwhile cause. And that's where you can help.
