Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Team Ignis, comprising: James Senior; Jean Birrell; Chris Bowie; and Ben Robinson, is undertaking a gruelling three day trek to the summit of the highest mountain in North Africa to raise urgent funds for Action for A-T, a charity founded by a close friend of the team. Unfortunately, his five-year-old daughter, Evie, has been diagnosed with A-T, an aggressive and incurable neuro degenerative disorder.

A-T is short for Ataxia Telangiectasia and is a genetic neuro-degenerative disorder which establishes itself in early childhood. Babies appear healthy at birth, developing normally until school age; at this point, the progressive deterioration of the cerebellum begins to affect muscle control. Children with the condition have weak immune systems, which leave them susceptible to life threatening respiratory conditions and 1,000 times more likely to contract certain cancers. Eventually, all physical functions will be shut down, leaving most in a wheelchair by the time they are 10 and cutting their lives tragically short - typically 15 to 20 years of age.

This is a relatively rare and under researched condition. The money raised will help to fund study into A-T with the specific aim of finding a cure. Everyone working for the charity is a volunteer so every penny you donate will go directly to research.

Hopefully, three long hard days of trekking (in excess of nine hours each day) and three cold nights huddled in a tent up a mountain will spur you into making a donation to this very worthy cause. Please give generously.

We thank you kindly in advance

Ben, Chris, James and Jean
