My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Ghana Education Project (GEP) is small charity with a big ambition. It supports the development of education in Nkwanta, a deprived area of North East Ghana. It has helped to build and equip schools there. Founder Gill Norris was awarded the MBE for her efforts with GEP and now lives in Nkwanta. Its next big project is to build and equip a School for Girls.

To find out more about the project, have a look at:

In October 2010, a party from TWGGS will travel to Nkwanta to participate in the project by teaching for two weeks in the village. Afterwards they will spend one week travelling around Ghana. TWGGS has had a link to the area since 1997 and has successfully raised large sums of money to contribute to the ongoing projects. I have been lucky enough to be selected to go on next year’s trip.

Before going to Ghana, I want to raise as much money as possible to contribute to GEP. So far I’ve raised over £300, by doing a mixture of cleaning, what my family call ‘Extreme Ironing’ (for friends and anyone who needs their ironing done) and babysitting. However, this weekend things get a bit more energetic and sociable. I’m doing a Sponsored Walk of 13 miles (about 20Km) around Bewl Water, our local reservoir. My dad suggested sponsoring me to do a silent walk round Bewl, as that would be very cheap, but I think I’ll raise more if you just sponsor me to get round without losing my voice!

It's important that you should know that any money you donate goes directly to the project - it's not for my travelling expenses, which have to be paid for separately. There isn't a travel company gobbling up a significant percentage of the money.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity

I’d really appreciate it if you would be willing to make a donation. I know everyone’s worried about the Credit Crunch, but just go wild, cast your cares to the winds, splash out and donate! Think of the buzz you’ll get out of having a direct impact on the lives of children I’ll be meeting face-to-face next year. So please give, now!

Good luck Immy! Lots of hugs from Mia & Peter Donation by Mia 05/12/09
