OSCAR Dragon Boat Race 2019 · 13 September 2019 ·

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

In 2007, Phil Parry was told that his young son Oscar wouldn't survive the day. At that point, Oscar had endured two forms of leukaemia, two bone marrow transplants, over 100 blood transfusions, five brain haemorrhages and five years of chemotherapy.

Despite the grim prognosis in 2007, Oscar's medical team persevered. They got him through the immediate crisis and were then able to conquer his transplant rejection disease with a new form of stem cell transplant. He was the first child in the UK to ever receive this treatment. Twelve years later, he is 20 and working full-time as a chef in London.

Good news stories like Oscar's really are only possible thanks to fundraising that enables research to go beyond the funding available from the public purse.

How you can help

On 13 September 2019, Ince will be taking part in a Dragon Boat Race to help raise vital funds for the pioneering research that continues at Great Ormond Street. The shipping industry raises funds through the OSCAR Campaign to support this research - new treatments that save the lives of children today that only a year or two ago wasn't possible.

Your support for our Dragon Boat Race will directly help new treatments and research - life-saving care for many other children, just like Oscar.
