T2                       02:28

Run 42.2km       4.11:42

The relay team completed their challenge soon after.  Jon would like to thank all those who sponsored him and supported him on the day but most importantly, those of 06592B who made the event happen!

The following event will take place in The Street, West Herts College, Hempstead Road, Watford, WD17 3EZ on Tuesday 15th May from 07:00 to approx 16:30.

Public Services students from West Herts College are pushing former paratrooper and WHC tutor, Jon Cowell, to achieve a new indoor triathlon world record on 15 May – and they need your help.

The event will take place in the Street at Watford campus from 7am until approximately 5.30pm. The event will cover the Indoor Iron Distance Triathlon format of: Row 3.86km – Bike 180.25 km  – Run 42.2 km – with a relay team of students racing against West Herts lecturer, Jon Cowell.

The current Guinness World Record stands at 9 hours 33 minutes and 57 seconds and hopefully the student relay team can also set a world best in the process!

Students will also be raising awareness and money for the charity Help For Heroes, which supports active and former servicemen and women who are either mentally or physically disabled as a result of their service defending the nation. Jon served with Airborne Forces in Northern Ireland, the Gulf and in many countries in Africa.  He was treated by the charity Combat Stress for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after service in Rwanda in 1994 during the genocide.

Students are will take an active part in racing relay-style as a member of the 141-person student team to cover the 140.6 miles in the fastest possible time and your support in both creating a team and in fund raising is paramount to the success of the event.

Participants will row 429m, bike 2km or run 1km, or any combination of activities alongside Jon who will complete the full distance.

All proceeds from the sale of wrist bands will go to Help For Heroes.  Each wrist band will come with a raffle ticket - please hang on to this ticket as this will represent a finishing time and there will be prizes for the closest ticket sold to Jon's row, bike and run split times and overall finish time.
