I DID IT! Reached the summit on Thursday at 8.10 am after 8 ahours of intense climbing in the dark. Further 4 hours of descent to reach camp to have an hours sleep before packing and heading of to our last camp another couple of hours trek.

Most amazing experience, hardest thing I have ever done, but the feeling of achievement unbelievable. Fantastic people on the trip made this trip an experience I will never forget.

All packed now. Off tomorrow. A little worried they are going to confiscate half my stuff 'necessay' stuff when I reach Moshi!!!

Taking my malaria pills, tried Diamox - ready to go! xxxx

My heart and stomach are competing in my throat!!!!

Ipod loaded with all my favourites. Got to get to the top dancing with those tunes. Pole pole dancing....

I have now experienced feelings of fear, anxiety, pain and is left now feeling extremely excited about the venture ahead.

The support from friends and family have been outstanding and it is great to have that support which I will remember on the mountain when times get tough.

SOS Children's Villages are offcourse also over the moon with the money they receive. This is an amazing charity which does make a huge difference to children, who without this support, would be left without any family or friends.

So THANK YOU so much for supporting me in raising money for this fantastic charity and believing in my stamina!!

On 24 September 2010, I will be pushing my limits both physically and mentally by climbing Kilimanjaro in in aid of raising money for SOS Children’s Villages.

The decision to reach the roof of the highest mountain in Africa was made with my colleague and friend, Jill Ackland. I guess both of us had a mad moment which continues. The mountain stands at 5895m tall and is not a holiday!!!

Deciding which charity to raise money for was much more difficult. There are some fantastic charities in North Devon and others which are very important, but I support these on a regular basis through other events and monthly donations.

As most of you know I lost my mother through cancer and recently my father passed away, which is a huge loss, even at my age. What it must be like for children to lose their parents and often their home and other family members is hard for any of us to imagine. That is why I chose  SOS children’s villages, the world’s largest orphan and abandoned children’s charity due to the amazing work they have carried out over the last 8 years in supporting AIDS orphans, street children, child soldiers or children orphaned by war, poverty or natural disasters.

I will be taking on this challenge with Jill, a colleague and friend of mine, who is raising money for Diabetes UK. The goal is to raise £10000 between us by the time we put our trekking boots on and head for the mountain, so please support us either through a donation on this site or by attending some of our events.

We have already started to raise money by organising different events which we hope you will be attending. To boosts these events I would be grateful for any small or large contributions which you can give directly via this site.

Thank you so much for your support, I will be keeping you informed of any events and also how the training is going and eventually of the challenge itself.  Thank you again.
