Story

(On behalf of Sof, Amanda, Dave, Beth, Julie, Erika, Zack and many other Miyagi Interac ALTs past and present):

Hi Guys,

The Earthquake and Tsunami that has hit Japan has profoundly affected us  because it was in the areas in which we lived and taught for the past 4 years.  It is heartbreaking to see places we trod everyday disappear and frightening to think of the friends we still can't contact. During our time as assistant language teachers we made many close friends, both ALTs, Japanese colleagues and of course our students - many of whom have lost their homes, belongings and are trying to find their loved ones. All we want to do is go out there and help the people who accepted us as one of their own, but unfortunately that is impossible right now. The least we can do however is raise awareness of a great Relief Effort by Shelter Box

- they are on the ground in Sendai right now and are providing emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by this monumental disaster. The people of Miyagi are a hardy bunch - rice farmers and fishermen, but have hearts of gold and have shown us all nothing but kindness during our time there! I know it's Japan and you may think it's a rich country but believe me, this is one of the poorest, most rural parts and the destruction is unprecedented. Thank You for donating. x
